Report: Arizona State OC Mike Norvell will be Memphis' next coach

Memphis will name Arizona State deputy head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Norvell its new head coach, according to a report by The Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Memphis has a press conference schedule for 4:30 Friday.

Memphis president M. David Rudd tweeted Thursday that Memphis had hired a coach, but did not mention a name.

Norvell, 34, has helped run Todd Graham’s fast-paced offenses for the past eight seasons at Tulsa, Pittsburgh and Arizona State.

Arizona State’s offense ranked 23rd nationally in total offense, averaging 474 yards per game and 33.8 points per game.

Norvell replaces Justin Fuente, who spent four years with the Tigers and went 26-23 in that span. His Tigers’ team was 9-3 this season.
